BGMA supply issues dashboard
Starting by looking at April 2021, BGMA provides a monthly snapshot of the numbers of supply issues affecting generic[1] medicines in England, based on available government and NHS data and sources.
Supply issues as a proportion of presentations listed in the Drug Tariff[2]
Serious Shortage Protocols in place
- Number of generic presentations for which a Serious Shortage Protocol is currently in place = 4
- Number of molecules for which a Serious Shortage Protocol has been in place at any time since inception in October 2019 = 5
Medicine Supply Notifications published
- Number of Medicine Supply Notifications that have been issued in April = 10 (2 new MSNs were issued in March; 9 in February; 4 in January)
- Number of MSNs that have been issued for generic medicines = 10 (1 in March; 8 in February; 4 in January)
- Number of MSNs that have been issued for originator medicines = 0 (1 in March; 1 in February; 0 in January)
Supply Disruption Alerts published
- Number of Supply Disruption Alerts that have been issued in April = 0 (3 in March; 1 in February; 1 in January)
- Number of SDAs that have been issued for generic medicines = 0 (3 in March; 1 in February; 1 in January)
- Number of SDAs that have been issued for originator medicines = 0 (0 in March; 0 in February; 0 in January)
DHSC supply issues update
- Number of medicines identified in the DHSC April 2021 supply issues update = 58 (65 in March; 70 in February; 71 in January)
- Number of generic medicines = 49 (55 in March; 60 in February; 63 in January)
- Number of originator medicines = 9 (10 in March; 10 in February; 8 in January)
- Number of generic medicines where no equivalent licensed alternative is available = 39 (38 in March; 44 in February; 38 in January)
- Number of discontinuations listed = 11 (13 in March; 8 in February; 9 in January)
